International Paper supports communities in Alabama after deadly storms

NORTHAMPTON, MA / ACCESSWIRE / January 24, 2023 / International Paper employees at Containerboard Mills in Prattville and Riverdale (Selma, Alabama) have been hard hit and are now working to help one another rebuild their communities.

At our Riverdale facility in Selma, more than 50 members of the IP team have confirmed some level of damage to their homes, ranging from broken windows to total destruction. The teams there work to hand out tarpaulins and water boxes, as well as IP disaster relief boxes with necessities like soap, toothbrushes, gloves, etc. At our Prattville facility, about a dozen team members reported damage to their homes, including at least three who were totaled. The close-knit community mourns after a rural area in the county was completely devastated.

On behalf of our affected team members, International Paper is donating $100,000 to support disaster relief efforts in Alabama. In addition to directly supporting our employees impacted through our Employee Relief Fund (ERF) program, International Paper supports United Way of Selma and Dallas County and River Region United Way, which provides disaster relief in Dallas County and Autauga, with county communities.

“The generous spirit of our IP family is ever-evolving, and during disasters like this, we remain true to our company’s vision by helping our employees and communities how and where we can,” said Russell Harris, vice president of International Paper, Container Board Manufacturing.

International Paper is proud to support our team members in times of need and to be a force for good in the communities where our employees live and work.
