No. 2 Florida win at No. 11 Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — No. 2 Florida Gymnastics opened the road action with a 197.325-196.45 win Friday over No. 11 Alabama ahead of 11,253 at the Coleman Coliseum.

Coleman Coliseum isn’t the site of many Gator wins. Florida is now 4-17 in Alabama dual-meet action, with those wins in 1979, 2019, 2021 and 2023.


It was a Gator all-around sweep Friday. super senior Trinity Thomas took her 27th All-around win at 39.65 followed by freshman Kayla Di Cello (39.50) and in the second year Leanne Wong (39.45).

Florida opened the meeting on uneven bars. The final four Gators all scored 9.9s or better, including Thomas and DiCello, who shared the win with a 9.925. Victoria Nguyen and Wong tied for third place with Alabama’s Luisa Blanco with a 9.9.

At the vault, Thomas shared the evening’s event title with Jordyn Paradise of Alabama at 9:9. It was Thomas’ third consecutive jump win in 2023 and the 20thth her career. Senior Payton Richards’ Season-best 9.875 shared third place with Alabama’s Lily Hudson.

Thomas’ 9.95 shared the evening’s floor exercise victory with Luisa Blanco of Alabama. Lilly Hudson of The Tide was third (9.925).

The Gators finished the meeting with a six-for-six balance beam set. For the second straight meeting, DiCello posted a college best of 9.925. This brand won its second event title of the night. Alabama’s Ella Burgess was second with a 9.9 while Wong and Thomas tied for third with a 9.875.


  • The four event titles bring Thomas’s school record for wins to 122. She is the only Gator with more than 100 event wins.
  • DiCello’s victories on uneven bars and balance beam are her first apparatus wins as a Gator. She won the all-around of the season opener.

Alabama hosted its first Be the Change You Want to See in the World meeting on Friday. Gator gymnasts joined the tide for this equality gathering, wearing colored headbands to show their support for various causes.
