Tech def. Wofford & Alabama State – Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets

THE FLATS – The Georgia Tech men’s tennis team ended a successful weekend of competition with two wins in their doubleheader on Sunday against Wofford and Alabama State. The Jackets defeated Wofford 7-0 and beat Alabama State 6-1

MATCH 1 vs. WOFFORD:
Tech went 2-1 in doubles and took the first point of the game. Andrew Martin and Markus McDaniel defeated Callum Rendle and Max Graham, 6-3. Keshav Chopra and Elias Schokri defeated Ashe Ray and Robbie Young 6-3 to give Tech a 1-0 lead before going into singles.

The Jackets defeated Wofford in singles, with five of their players winning in straight sets. McDaniel quickly defeated his opponent, fading out Wofford’s Rendle 6-0, 6-0. martin, Robert Bauer and Chopra followed behind McDaniel with three wins to take the score to 3-0. Shokry took the first set from Wofford’s horn and scored a 7-6 [7-3] Tiebreak win in the second set. Rohan Sachdev was forced to play three sets with Wofford’s fullet. After falling 6-3 in the second game, Sachdev came back with an impressive 10-2 win.

GAME 2 vs. ALABAMA STATE:
Tech grabbed Alabama State’s quick double with back-to-back wins. Martin/McDaniel and Chopra/Shokry earned 6-1 wins and improved to 2-0 as a pair on the day.

In the singles game, the Jacks went 5-1. Once again, McDaniel clinched Tech’s first singles win in a 6-0, 6-3 decision over Ruan Du Preez. Martin’s and Sachdev’s two-set wins gave Tech the automatic team win. Both teams played all singles games. Chopra clinched a 6-2, 6-3 win over Alabama State’s Bajracharya and Shokry finished the singles game with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Alabama State’s Verlaguet.
