The NFL’s 2023 mock draft features several football stars from Alabama

With college football’s 2023 offseason approaching, it’s time for fans and analysts to focus on the upcoming NFL draft. This draft is expected to feature several prominent figures from Alabama, a practice that was common in Nick Saban’s era.

The latest 2023 mock draft by Draft Wire’s Natalie Miller features four Crimson Tide players on either side of the ball.

The first two picks are expected to be quarterback Bryce Young and outside linebacker Will Anderson Jr., but the question remains: who will be the first overall pick?

Miller’s mock draft has an answer to that question and some other interesting choices.

The Chicago Bears could pass that pick to a team that needs a quarterback. However, if the front office decides to keep it, a defensive player is the right choice for the franchise. Will Anderson Jr. is the best player on the board and will be the first No. 1 draft pick of the Crimson Tide in the modern draft era.

It would come as a surprise to many if Bryce Young wasn’t the first quarterback off the board. The Houston Texans have put together a solid offensive unit that is in desperate need of a quarterback. Young would be the franchise guy for a Texan franchise trying to get back into the playoffs. Not to mention, Young has a strong connection with former teammate and current Houston wide receiver John Metchie III.

Tyler Steen was a key addition to the transfer portal for the Crimson Tide heading into the 2022 college football season. The former Vanderbilt Commodore played well in his one season in Tuscaloosa and now deserves the attention of NFL front offices. Steen is relatively new to the first-round projections, which could change as the draft nears. Is this an outlier, or is Steen poised to quickly conquer the draft boards? The Jets aren’t missing too many pieces on offense, but adding Steen would definitely help.

The Green Bay Packers need some help in the secondary school and Brian Branch is certainly strengthening the defense unit overall. Branch serves as a versatile defender and can make a strong contribution anywhere on the field.

Former Alabama running back Jahmyr Gibbs is barred from this particular mock draft but is usually a late first-round pick in most others. Miller included only one running back in this mock draft, namely Bijan Robinson of Texas.
