The USS Alabama crewmate program begins for 2023

Now hear that! Battleship Memorial Park is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 USS ALABAMA Crewmate Program. Applications are available from Monday 23 January. Applications can be downloaded from our website at https://www.ussalabama.com/get-involved/crewmates/ or picked up at the Battleship Memorial Park Ticket Office, 2703 Battleship Parkway. The ticket office is open daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The application deadline is Friday, February 17, 4:00 p.m

The USS Alabama Crewmate Competition is open to young women ages 19-21. Applicants must be 19 by March 27, 2023 and must not have been 21 by the same date. All applicants must reside in Mobile or Baldwin County at the time of application and, if selected, during their tenure as a crew member. A full list of qualifications and requirements is included in the application pack.

USS Alabama crew members represent Battleship Memorial Park and the state of Alabama at a variety of events and public appearances across the state. Selection criteria include attitude, appearance, strength of application, references and interview with a selection panel. Six young women are selected to serve as crewmates.

The Miss USS Alabama 2023–2024 will receive a $3,000 scholarship, Miss USS Drum will receive a $2,500 scholarship, and the remaining four crew members will each receive a $2,000 scholarship to their college or university of choice.

No entry fee or sponsorship is required to enter the competition. All uniforms and accessories worn at official events are provided to the crewmember by the USS ALABAMA Battleship Commission at no cost, along with travel expenses for out-of-town activities. All performances will be fully accompanied by Battleship Memorial Park officials.

The USS Alabama Crewmate Program was established in 1967 as an ambassador program for the newly created USS ALABAMA Battleship Memorial Park. The program has offered more than 250 young women the opportunity to serve in this position and receive scholarships to the college of their choice. The crewmates have dedicated thousands of hours of community service to both Battleship Memorial Park and the state of Alabama.
