Whether it’s a gravity-defying facial or an herbal bath, there’s nothing more rejuvenating than a spa-centric getaway. Here are some places to escape to, from California and New York to Mexico and London, whether on a press tour or a real vacation.
Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
The Fountain at Chileno Bay Resort Cabo vacations just got a whole lot healthier thanks to The Well, the highly personalized wellness retreat in New York City that draws the likes of Reese Witherspoon, Gwyneth Paltrow, Nina Dobrev and Emma Roberts. That’s because The Well’s first property on the West Coast just opened at the oceanfront Chileno Bay Resort & Residences, Auberge Resorts Collection.
A new four-day onsite program, The Well Reset, says Chief Medical Officer Frank Lipman, “offers guests a results-driven itinerary specifically tailored to meet their wellness goals, even while on vacation — whether that’s resetting their gut, improving metabolic health or Balancing blood sugar.”
The program takes place at the resort’s new wellness center, which features daily mindful movement classes, a meditation lounge with hanging beds and a floating fire, a bathhouse for lymphatic system-boosting hot and cold experiences, and even a bougainvillea-draped midday garden with a self-guided reflexology pool and curated pool nap programming. In addition to this “wellness playground” designed by New York interior designer Nina Gotlieb, there are six new wellness guest suites. There, visitors can experience in-room programs every morning as well as a personalized turn-up service with healthy smoothies, Rising Yoga sequence cards, and a meditation album. The evening turndown includes a light therapy face mask, affirmation cards, and foot massage roller. There’s also an aloe bar, cryo sticks from Biologique Recherche, and The Well Relax Body Oil to aid in recovery.
This is not a one-massage-and-done spa; Programming is done literally 24/7 using the latest sleep monitoring technology. And befitting its location, The Well at Chileno Bay offers immersive offerings that blend ancient practices with modern science. A particularly dreamy one: the spiritual heavenly bathing, which includes a ritual by the fireplace and a biodynamic moon and star journey in an outdoor pool. Yes, you can still get a margarita at the swim beach or in the three tier pool. But it may not be necessary. Single occupancy starts at $5,000 per night, double occupancy at $9,000; aubergeresorts.com or expedia.com
Claridge’s Spa After 210 years in business, art deco legend Claridge’s finally opened its first spa in the borough of Mayfair last autumn. The magic happens in a serene 7,000-square-foot space made of oak, limestone, and glass, courtesy of renowned interior designer André Fu. The spa includes an indoor pool with private changing rooms, sauna, and steam rooms, as well as seven sensory treatment chambers filled with Asian aesthetic references, particularly from Japan. On offer are radiant, high-tech facials and full-body detoxifications with acclaimed Augustinus Bader products; La Eva sensory immersions; and bamboo and silk rituals, among many other next-level escapes. bathhouse Set in a converted Williamsburg factory, The Bathhouse is all about functional restoration and ancient global wisdom in an atmospheric, brick-clad setting with eclectic design. Wellness-seekers can book a day pass for access to a starlit steam room (the ceiling’s light design mimics the night sky), thermal pools, saunas, and marble hammams, or book specific treatments like Moroccan scrubs in the latter, private herbal baths, and stress-relieving massages. 101 N. 10th St., Williamsburg, abathhouse.com

Rancho Mirage, California
Sensei Porcupine Creek Nestled at the foot of the mountains in Rancho Mirage, California, lush, art-filled Sensei Porcupine Creek is the first retreat entirely operated by co-founder David Agus’ highly customized wellness brand (Sensei Lanai, A Four Seasons Resort, co-founded by Larry Ellison, debuted 2019). Agus’ Paramount+ Series, The examination at Dr. david agus, launched in December and features intimate, health-focused conversations with the likes of Jane Fonda and Ashton Kutcher.
At the ultra-discreet Sensei Porcupine Creek, spa treatments are not the whole point, supporting each guest’s overarching personal goals (discovered in one-on-one sessions with a private Sensei guide) and incorporating athletic recovery experiences that combine myofascial relaxation, neuromuscular therapy, percussive devices and stretching. Of course, it’s also possible to indulge in all-round pampering, with a Gua Sha facial treatment or a desert herb wrap and oil massage using products made with herbs from the desert region. The California-meets-Japanese-meets-Peruvian cuisine and sushi bar, courtesy of Sensei by Nobu, also walks the line between healthy and decadent. Packages start at $1,225 per night with a two night minimum (sensei.com) and move on to the Optimal Wellbeing program, which uses data-gathering health technologies and innovative analytics to prescribe an integrated flow of practices and therapies (from $1,580 per night). sensei.com
