New York Knicks vs. Toronto Raptors Live Score and Stats – January 22, 2023 Gametracker

TORONTO (AP) Fred VanVleet had 28 points, Gary Trent Jr. had 24 before fouling and the Toronto Raptors ended a three-game losing streak on Sunday with a 125-116 win over the New York Knicks.

Pascal Siakam had 24 points, Scottie Barnes had 19, and Precious Achiuwa added 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Raptors, who had 26 points from 17 New York turnovers.

RJ Barrett had 30 points and Julius Randle had 23 points and 19 rebounds as the Knicks lost their fourth straight game.

“There were tracks where we did good things,” said Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau. “We’re just not doing enough good to win.”

Jalen Brunson had 21 points and Obi Toppin had 14, but the shorthanded Knicks were without guard Immanuel Quickley (left knee) and center Mitchell Robinson, who missed his second game after undergoing surgery to repair a broken right thumb.

“It’s tough,” Randle said, not being the injured couple. “You bring a lot to our team. They do a lot for us on both ends of the floor.”

New York overcame a 17-point deficit to take the lead late in the third quarter. The game started in a tie before the Raptors pulled away on an 11-0 run that saw Toronto score seven points at the free-throw line.

“We fouled, we didn’t use offensive rebounds and turned the ball around,” said Thibodeau about the decisive stretch. “That’s usually a recipe for hitting you.”

Toronto had lost its last two games in Minnesota and home to Boston, despite holding double-digit leads in each. In both losses, the Raptors failed to score 20 points in the fourth quarter. They scored 39 goals in the fourth quarter on Sunday.

VanVleet returned after sitting out Saturday’s loss to Boston due to pain in his right ribs. Toronto were without OG Anunoby, who left Saturday’s game in the second half with a sore right ankle.

The Raptors started 5-5 from 3-point range and shot 7-11 from long range in the first while New York went 2-9. Toronto led 37-22 after one.

“We just came out with a good focus and a good intensity,” VanVleet said. “We need to find ways to consistently increase that as the game progresses.”

Toppin scored 12 points and shot 4 for 5 from long range as the Knicks closed the gap in the second. The Raptors were up 62-53 at halftime.

Brunson’s 3 with 1:26 in the third goal ended in a 10-1 sprint that brought the Knicks by one to 84-83 and put New York ahead for the first time since Barrett scored the first two points of the game at the free-throw line . The score was tied at 86, which moves on to fourth.
