New York Rangers 6, Florida Panthers 2

The Florida Panthers ended their five-game points streak Monday night with a 6-2 loss to the New York Rangers as the team failed to record a third straight win of the season.

Florida dominated possession for most of the game, but the clock struck midnight AlexLyon Cinderella history with three goals on 12 shots in the first two halves of the game.

Sam Bennett suffered a lower body injury late in the first period from which he attempted to come back but ultimately prevented him from starting the third period.

Florida stayed in the game – and at times even dominated it – but New York outlasted them and made money in the third period.

A 16:13 lead in scoring chances and a 22:12 lead in shots turned into a four-goal deficit at half-time in the third period.

Much of this had to do with the Rangers’ presence in the slot.

Of Florida’s 16 scoring chances, none were dangerous.

The New Yorkers clogged the penalty area in front of their star goalkeeper and Igor Shesterkin came up with saves on the Panthers’ shots from the perimeter.

Once in possession, Rangers slammed the net hard, conceding bounces near the crease.

However, much of that has to do with fatigue for a side who finished their 10th game of a nine-of-eleven away game.

The Panthers will need to regroup fairly quickly with an important game against the Pittsburgh Penguins coming up Tuesday night.

Florida is currently three points behind the Penguins for the last wild card berth in the Eastern Conference.

The difference between a regular win and a regular loss is being one point behind and five points behind.
